Juneteenth Celebrations at Leimert Park

Juneteenth is a celebration. It represents emancipation & freedom from slavery. On June 19, 1865 Union soliders went to Galvaston, TX with news of the Emancipation Proclamation. From Texas that day is celebrated today across the nation.

Many, many years ago Cosette Hernandez invited me to the Juneteenth Celebration in Leimert Park. I loved the celebration & community that embraced it’s roots with pride. I knew I would be back with camera in hand. I started documenting the event 2021 & hope to keep documenting events in Leimert Park.
